BUSONA Farm

Giulia Gropallo's farm, called 'Fattoria di Busona', is located on the southern border of the Chianti Classico area, in the municipality of Castellina in Chianti.

Busona is a borderland between Siena and Florence and battles between Sienese, Florentines, and then the French and the Imperials until 1559. It became an agricultural settlement at the end of the 16th century, on the property of the Convent of Santa Margherita in Castelvecchio di Siena, with the first farms made, and subsequently by the Piccolomini family of Siena. The property was then purchased in 1706 by Francesca Malavolti, who brought it as a dowry in her marriage to Girolamo di Celso Domenico Bargagli. Since then, the Busona property has remained uninterruptedly in the Bargagli family and its heirs. The company currently covers an area of about 160 hectares, of which about 138 hectares are in the hills and 22 in the plains, mostly in the Municipality of Castellina in Chianti, and in the Municipality of Monteriggioni. The company produces grapes for Chianti Classico, Tuscan IGP EVO Oil, cereals, legumes and oilseeds in rotation.

The olive groves were practically abandoned when we took over them in 2019; starting their reform from 2020 to gradually bring them to a polyconic vase breeding, and then continuing with thickening and recovery of the oldest olive groves, for which we have dedicated projects
