Marche EVOO (Italy)

EVOO from the Marche region and extra virgin olive oil from the Marche region

The cultivation of the olive tree in the Marche dates back many centuries. Today olive growing sees more and more new territories involved. In fact, we find about 10,500 hectares of olive trees, mainly in the province of Ascoli Piceno, but with a good presence also in the province of Macerata and then in the provinces of Ancona and Pesaro-Urbino. The cultivations reside above all in the internal hilly areas and also on the coast overlooking the Adriatic Sea. The production is interesting with about 40,000 quintals of extra virgin olive oil and more than 160 mills, mostly in the provinces of Macerata and Ascoli. The Marches received the Designation of Protected Geographical Indication (PDO) for its Extra Virgin Olive Oil due to its age-old reputation. Marche PGI extra virgin olive oil is produced with the Ascolana tenera, Carboncella, Coroncina, Mignola, Orbetana, Piantone di Falerone, Piantone di Mogliano, Raggia/Raggiola, Rosciola dei Colli Esini and Sargano di Fermo, Frantoio and Leccino varieties. The production of extra virgin olive oil in the Marche region also boasts a DOP (Protected Designation of Origin) such as the Cartoceto DOP extra virgin olive oil.
